Next meeting:
Wednesday, 18 June 2003,
7-8 PM. (Note, there will be no meeting in July!) Meet at Glasgow University chaplaincy. Enter main gate of university, turn right, walk around two edges of the grassy square, look for sign on the black iron fence that says Chaplaincy. Walk down stairs to basement level.
Most recent event:
June 2 2003: Teaching entitled "Freedom from Negative Emotions". Lama Khyimsar Rinpoche, Director of the Yungdrung Bon Study Centre visiting Scotland for a month, generously gave a 2 hour+ teaching on our behalf. About 50 people attended this thought provoking evening in which we learned about the roots of destructive emotions, meditated, and recited chants. We also learned a little about the history of the Bon religion of Tibet that predates Buddhism by several thousand years.
At the event, 25 signatures each were collected on petitions going to 3 Nepalese officials and the UK Foreign Office, protesting the recent round-up and handover of Tibetan refugees (which included very young children) in Nepal to China under Chinese pressure, despite offers by the UN High Commission on Human Rights to take them to India. These petitions were mailed promptly. The cover letter to the Foreign Office included a thank you for having made a complaint to the Chinese government over this incident.
Upcoming events:
Some time this summer. Authentic Tibetan dinner.
